Is your contractor licensed?
Is the company not only licensed and bonded in your town, but can show that proof in several surrounding towns.
Does your contractor have Workmen's Compensation and General Liability?
Hiring a contractor that does not show proof of workmen's compensation insurance exposes you to liability and law suits if an employee of the company you hire gets injured on the job. Your homeowner's insurance policy, in most cases, does not protect you. General liability is coverage for any damage your contractor may incur while on the job.
Does your contractor specify material manufacturer's names and their written warranty?
Knowing the manufacturer the materials will give you the information and history of that company. It is very important to know what they warranty the material on.
Does your contractor sub-contract work?
A contractor could sell you a job then sub-contract that to another contractor. This may lead to insurance problems and poor quality workmanship.
What if I need service at a later date or a repair how long does your contractor guarantee your workmanship?
It is important that your investment is guaranteed for both labor and material. These warranties should be in writing.
Can your contractor give you referrals?
A quality contractor should provide you with several references for you to see and talk to. These references should be similar to your job. Also, they should furnish photos of previous jobs completed.
Do you feel comfortable with the salesperson?
